BE Offers High Hopes for Low Power
April 21, 2009
Broadcast Electronics (BE) has high hopes for its new STX LP, a line of solid-state low-power FM transmitters. Making their first NAB Show appearance, the STX LP line has models in 1 kW, 3 kW and 5 kW power. Power output is field upgradable.
A built-in exciter is included to make the whole package more affordable for U.S. and international broadcasters. The internal exciter is upgradable to a digital model. It is also compatible with HD Radio. The STX LP is remote operable via an IP connection.
The STX LP is designed to generate less heat with improved energy efficiency, a heat sink and multiple cooling fans. It has four RF power transistors for increased reliability.
Tim Bealor, vice president for RF Products at BE said: "If you need a 1 kW backup now, but want to upgrade to 3 kW or 5 kW later for, say, an HD Radio signal, you can do so easily. No need to go back again and ask for another transmitter when its time for HD Radio."
