Vidiator Offers a Second Mobile Video Solution
April 22, 2009
Broadcasters looking for another solution for ramping up content to mobile devices in addition to the ATSC M/H need look no further: Vidiator has solutions that tap into existing cell towers and relay content to cell phones.
At an NAB Show press briefing, Vidiator unveiled a system geared specifically to local broadcast operators.
The cell-only streaming system is designed to complement the new mobile DTV standard, but the Bellevue, Wash.-based firm does not use the ATSC approach for its mobile solutions. The Vidiator approach allows cell users to invite other users to view live video originating from one phone, as well as other custom options.
Also, Vidiator is announcing today a joint venture with Sun Microsystems that will pursue development of an integrated video streaming scheme that allows broadcasters to deliver high-quality video content to users. Among other things, the venture will allow operators to offer simultaneous content to TV sets and mobile handhelds.
Vidiator views its new Sun deal as another major step toward providing a "seamless programming experience" for content users of TV, cell phones and computers. In the venture, Vidiator plans to deploy its Xenon mobile encoding and streaming technology with Sun IPTV systems.
